Southern Chile is facing devastating wildfires that have led to the death of at least 19 people, mostly in the Biobio region. The fires, fueled by high temperatures and strong winds, broke out on Saturday, destroying approximately 300 homes, and estimates suggest that the number could exceed 1,000. President Gabriel Boric has declared a nighttime curfew in the most affected areas, Lirquén and Penco, where the fires have gotten out of control. Approximately 4,000 firefighters are mobilized to combat the flames, and over 50,000 people have been evacuated. Boric declared a state of "natural disaster," allowing the deployment of the military to help manage the situation. Weather conditions remain difficult, with temperatures exceeding 30°C and violent winds.
