On the night from Thursday to Friday, a significant fire broke out in a building in Thusis, eastern Switzerland, injuring eight people and causing five others to go missing.
The police from the canton of Grisons announced that the fire completely destroyed a restaurant with apartments, and fourteen people managed to escape from the building. Among the injured, two suffered serious injuries, two moderate, and four minor. They received medical care on-site and were transported to hospitals in Chur, Thusis, Ilanz, and Zurich. An investigation has been opened to determine the causes of the fire, which, according to initial findings, broke out on the second floor.
The stairwell collapsed, and firefighters had to open the roof with the help of a crane. Approximately 100 firefighters were mobilized to extinguish the fire, and operations continued on Friday. Images released by the police show a devastated building, with large flames coming out of the fixtures and a dense cloud of smoke above.
