Firefighters in France fought all night to extinguish a devastating fire that engulfed the historic forest near Paris, especially in the Fontainebleau area. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez stated that the fire is not under control, already consuming 1,300 hectares.

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of having started the fire, which is located a few kilometers from the Fontainebleau Palace, an important tourist site. The mobilization of resources, including Canadair planes, was necessary to combat the flames, and the fire led to the closure of the A6 motorway and the evacuation of up to 900 people.

Nunez emphasized that France is facing a record year regarding fires, with 32,000 hectares already burned this year. Climate change is believed to exacerbate the frequency of wildfires, and across France, 59 people have been arrested for starting fires.
