The fire broke out in the mountainous area near Limassol, fueled by strong winds and scorching temperatures of up to 43 degrees Celsius. Two people were found dead in a burned vehicle and authorities were struggling to evacuate the village of Lofou. The Cypriot president cited the difficulty of the situation and Cyprus has appealed for help from the European Union, with Spain and Jordan offering assistance. The island is facing severe drought, affecting the Kouris reservoir.
