A devastating fire broke out at the Dos Bocas oil refinery in southeastern Mexico, operated by the national company Pemex, resulting in the death of at least five people, including a company worker. The incident was caused by heavy rains that led to an oil spill, followed by its ignition. The fire occurred during the morning, near a hydrocarbon storage facility, and the flames spread rapidly due to unfavorable weather conditions. Emergency teams managed to extinguish the fire after about two hours, and Pemex officials stated that the situation no longer poses a danger to the public or employees. However, several people were injured and required medical attention. The Dos Bocas refinery, a controversial project of the Mexican government, has been marked by delays and cost-related criticisms. The recent incident joins a series of serious accidents recorded at Pemex facilities in recent years.
