German culture minister Wolfram Weimer has announced plans to introduce a 10% tax on the revenues of big digital platforms such as Google and Facebook. The measure is aimed at ensuring a fairer contribution from these companies to the state budget, given the high profits they make from operating in Germany. Weimer also highlighted the disproportionate influence of these platforms on the media market and public discourse. Germany joins other countries that have implemented similar levies, but the proposal could raise tensions with the US administration.
