The US State Department could lay off more than 1,200 employees on Friday in a bid to reduce the bloated structure of the institution.

According to an internal release, the US State Department will begin a wave of massive layoffs, affecting about 15% of its 18,000 employees. More than 1,000 Civil Service and more than 200 Foreign Service employees are expected to be laid off on Friday. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized the need for these measures to weed out employees with 'radical political ideology'. The layoffs come after the Supreme Court unsealed an executive order allowing them to continue.
