Chapter 10: Dangers to Romania
According to the Informat.ro - INSCOP Research BAROMETER, 2nd edition, conducted between June 20-26, 2025, almost two thirds of Romanians felt that Romania is in very great and great danger in the last 6 months.
The Informat.ro - INSCOP Research BAROMETER is a monthly opinion poll conducted by INSCOP Research commissioned by the news platform Informat.ro in partnership with the think-tank Strategic Thinking Group.
The Informat.ro - INSCOP Research BAROMETER aims to bring to public attention topics of interest to stimulate national conversations on various topics and public policies essential for Romania's present and future based on the opinion of Romanians in partnership with prestigious think tanks and academic institutions. We aim to contribute to the consolidation of democracy through the use of scientific and credible tools that bring the voice of citizens to the forefront of public debate.
Methodology: Data was collected between June 20-26, 2025. Research method: questionnaire interview. Data were collected by CATI method (telephone interviews), the simple stratified sample size was 1150 persons, representative by significant socio-demographic categories (gender, age, occupation) for the non-institutionalized population of Romania, aged 18 years and over. The maximum permissible error of the data is ± 2.9% at 95% confidence level.
Remus Ștefureac - Director of INSCOP Research: "After the worst health crisis of the last century and more than 3 years of hard war on Romania's borders caused by Russia's attack against Ukraine, the state of anxiety of the population was high. Against this background, the population's general feeling that Romania is in danger has been heightened by the most serious crisis of the democratic regime in the last three decades. This explains why two thirds of Romanians (65.2%) say that in the last 6 months they had the feeling, to a very great extent or to a great extent, that the country is in danger. The political-ideological camps may interpret the sources of danger differently, but the intensity of anxiety is very high, regardless of respondents' political options. There is also no category of the population that is more relaxed in its perception of danger, which further explains the state of tension in Romanian society."
Dangers to Romania
37.1% of Romanians say that in the last 6 months they have had the feeling that Romania is in danger to a very great extent, 28.1% to a great extent, 18.2% to a small extent, and 15.3% to a very small extent/not at all. 1.3% do not know or do not answer.
USR and AUR voters, people between 18 and 29 years of age and Bucharest residents are the categories that felt most strongly that Romania is in danger to a great or very great extent. In particular: PNL and PSD voters, small urban dwellers.
14.5% of the respondents believe that the danger comes from outside the country and 14.5% from inside. 35.1% believe the danger comes equally from outside and inside. The share of non-response is 1.3% of the total sample. The difference up to 100% is given by those who did not perceive a great danger.
They are of the opinion that the danger comes from outside the country especially PSD voters. AUR voters, 18-29 year olds and state employees consider to a greater extent than the rest of the population that the danger comes from inside the country. I think that the danger comes equally from outside and inside, especially: people with higher education, USR voters and residents of Bucharest and the large urban areas.
