The foreign ministers of Denmark and Greenland will meet on Wednesday at the White House to discuss the tensions generated by President Donald Trump's desire to buy Greenland, an autonomous territory under Danish sovereignty. Since returning to power, Trump has frequently mentioned this possibility, intensifying threats in the current geopolitical context. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen requested the meeting to clarify the "misunderstandings" created by Trump's statements, while both Denmark and Greenland categorically reject the idea of ceding the island. Greenland's Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, emphasized that Greenland will not be governed by the United States, while Denmark has significantly invested in the region's military security. After the meeting, a delegation from the U.S. Congress will visit Copenhagen to express solidarity with Denmark, in the context where Trump's threats are considered harmful to the NATO alliance.
