Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, will turn 90 on July 6, 2025. Born in 1935, he was recognized as the reincarnation of the previous leader at just two years old. He became Tibet's political leader in 1950 and lived in exile in India after the 1959 uprising. The Dalai Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 and promoted non-violent solutions for Tibet. In 2011, he transferred political power to an elected leader, returning to previous traditions. He emphasized the importance of religious diversity and universal responsibility, receiving over 150 awards for his contributions.
