Femern Link Contractors (FLC), the company involved in constructing the Fehmarn Belt tunnel between Denmark and Germany, was targeted in a cyberattack that disabled several essential systems and significantly disrupted work at the construction site in Rødbyhavn, Denmark. The incident was reported on October 13, 2026.
FLC informed the Danish state-owned company Sund & Bælt, which oversees major transport infrastructure projects. “We are in dialogue with FLC regarding this situation and, at this time, have no further information,” said Jens Villemoes, Sund & Bælt’s communications director.
The authorities and the company did not specify which systems were affected, how extensive the disruption was, or who might be behind the attack. Work on the tunnel began in 2020 on the Danish side and in 2021 on the German side. The project will connect Rødbyhavn with Puttgarden via a rail and road tunnel beneath the Baltic Sea. Once completed, the journey will take approximately seven minutes by train and ten minutes by car.
The Fehmarn Belt project is part of a major European program to modernize rail infrastructure, including tunnels and new lines through the Alps, intended to shorten passenger and freight transport between northern Europe and Italy.
