Bruno Rodriguez, the Cuban foreign minister, reacted on Wednesday to the accusations made by American Senator Marco Rubio, who stated in the U.S. Senate that the Cuban government sponsors terrorism and hosts Russian and Chinese espionage services. Rubio claimed that Cuba has supported terrorist groups in Latin America, such as ELN and FARC, and accused the island of hosting espionage facilities.
Rodriguez dismissed these claims, stating that Rubio has no arguments to justify keeping Cuba on the list of countries that sponsor terrorism. He emphasized that Rubio's real goal is to suffocate the Cuban economy and provoke a humanitarian crisis, intending to promote a military intervention in Cuba. Rodriguez also criticized the American Senate for allowing the spread of these lies. Relations between Washington and Havana have been tense, and Cuba maintains that internal changes can only be decided by the Cuban people, accusing the U.S. of preparing for military aggression.
