Ecuadorean fugitive Jose Adolfo Macias, known as 'Fito', has been recaptured, President Daniel Noboa has announced. Macias, the leader of the criminal group 'Los Choneros', was sentenced in 2011 to 34 years in prison for drug trafficking, murder and other crimes. His mysterious escape from the Guayaquil regional prison in 2024 occurred during an episode of violence.
