Mike Johnson, speaker of the House of Representatives, said members of Congress will leave Washington early to avoid a controversial vote on declassification of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. The initiative, backed by Republican Thomas Massie and Democrat Ro Khanna, was blocked by Republicans, who adjourned the Rules Committee. In parallel, a subcommittee voted to subpoena Ghislaine Maxwell, and Attorney General Pam Bondi called for the declassification of transcripts related to the Epstein and Maxwell cases.
