The Democratic Republic of Congo and the M23 armed group have signed an agreement in Switzerland, aimed at facilitating humanitarian aid and the release of prisoners.

The agreement was announced through a joint statement, following negotiations held over the weekend. The parties agreed to refrain from any actions that could compromise the delivery of humanitarian aid in the conflict-affected regions. A ten-day deadline was also established for the release of prisoners, as part of efforts to build trust between the two parties.

M23, supported by Rwanda, has captured significant territories in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a resource-rich area but affected by conflict for over 30 years.
