A 37-year-old Austrian mountaineer was found guilty of manslaughter by the Regional Court in Innsbruck after he abandoned his exhausted partner near the summit of Grossglockner and left to seek help without ensuring her survival equipment.
The Regional Court in Innsbruck sentenced him to five months in prison suspended and a fine of 9,400 euros for gross negligence that led to her death. The mountaineer contacted the police but did not communicate the seriousness of the situation, and later ignored the rescuers' calls.
