The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, stated that she will not allow a military intervention by the United States in her country, thus responding to speculation that Donald Trump might send troops to combat drug cartels. Sheinbaum emphasized that Mexico does not agree with any form of external intervention.
Trump has accused Mexico of inefficiency in stopping drug trafficking and proposed designating the cartels as terrorist organizations, as well as sending troops to Mexico. Although NBC reported that the Trump administration had begun preparing troops for a mission in Mexico, deployment is not considered imminent. This situation could escalate the U.S. military campaign against drug traffickers in Latin America, given that recent airstrikes have resulted in loss of life in the Caribbean and Pacific.
