The government of Botswana has announced that an alarming number of citizens are being attracted through deceptive recruitment schemes to fight on the side of Russia in the conflict in Ukraine.

The Ministry of International Relations has emphasized that, in recent months, the number of citizens from Botswana who are ending up fighting in the ranks of the Russian army is rapidly increasing. They are forced to participate in active combat, and the Ministry is receiving desperate calls from citizens on the front line, describing extremely dangerous conditions. Although exact figures are not known, the information suggests a worrying trend, similar to that observed in other African countries.

The collective 'All Eyes on Wagner' has reported that over 1,400 Africans have been recruited by Russia to fight in Ukraine, with a significant number of deaths among them. The recruitment of citizens from Southern Africa continues to be a major problem, with devastating effects on the affected communities.
