The Ministry of Commerce of China has stated that it will adopt 'appropriate countermeasures' if the European Union continues with its new cybersecurity law, deemed discriminatory towards Chinese companies. The ministry's spokesperson emphasized that the bill introduces 'subjective and arbitrary' criteria, such as identifying 'countries of concern' and 'high-risk suppliers', which could be excluded from supply chains in 18 essential sectors.

China has criticized these measures as an excessive politicization of trade issues and warned that they could severely affect global supply chains and economic relations with the EU. Additionally, Beijing has called for the removal or modification of the criteria for identifying high-risk suppliers. The new EU law, presented in January, aims to strengthen control over critical infrastructures, without explicitly mentioning companies or countries, but has already raised concerns regarding the participation of Chinese firms in strategic sectors.
