China's Foreign Ministry has emphasized that Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory, in reaction to President Trump's comments that Xi Jinping will not invade the island while he is in office. Spokeswoman Mao Ning said Taiwan's issue was exclusively internal and that China would do its best for a peaceful reunification but would not accept the island's separation. Taiwan, which rejects China's claims, said it was closely monitoring US-China interactions and working with other countries to maintain stability in the region.
