In an unprecedented move, China will provide an annual allowance of 3,600 yuan (about €420) per child for three years to support families and reduce education costs. This comes amid a continuing population decline, which could reach 800 million by 2100. In 2024, China recorded just 9.54 million births, a significant reduction from previous years.
