The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced that starting Tuesday, it will impose "provisional" anti-subsidy taxes on certain dairy products imported from the European Union, ranging from 21.9% to 42.7%. These taxes target fresh and processed cheese, blue cheese, milk, and cream. The anti-subsidy investigation was initiated in August 2024, in response to a fine imposed by the China Dairy Association, and is considered a reaction to the EU's decision to impose high tariffs on electric vehicles from China.

The Chinese authorities have determined that dairy products from the EU benefit from subsidies, affecting the local industry. Additionally, last week, China imposed anti-dumping taxes on pork from the EU, ranging from 4.9% to 19.8%, decreasing from previous provisional rates. The investigation into dairy products will conclude in February 2026.
