China has expressed dissatisfaction with the British government's decision to nationalize British Steel, a company owned by the Chinese group Jingye, stating that it firmly opposes this measure. The British government justified the nationalization by the need to protect jobs and maintain a vital national capacity, considering the company's financial losses. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated that the British actions violate Jingye's legitimate rights and undermine the confidence of Chinese investors.

Beijing has urged the UK to respect the bilateral investment treaty and announced that it will monitor the situation, supporting Chinese companies in defending their rights. The nationalization was made possible after the adoption of a law that allows the government to take control of the steel industry in the public interest. British Steel, which produces essential types of steel for the British economy, was last privatized in 1988.
