During a meeting with his American counterpart, Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun urged the United States to adopt a firm stance against Taiwan's independence, stating that the reunification of the two shores of the strait is an irreversible historical trend. Dong emphasized China's commitment to peaceful development but asserted that it will firmly defend national security interests.

Additionally, Taiwanese President William Lai stated that Taiwan will not accept the "one country, two systems" model proposed by Beijing and emphasized the need to defend its sovereignty. Lai announced the intention to increase military spending to strengthen the island's defense against threats from China.
