The 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to Canadian writer Anne Carson, “for her bold and inventive oeuvre which, in playful dialogue with the classical tradition, has created new forms for contemporary literature”, according to the Nobel Committee.
Anne Carson, born on June 21, 1950, in Toronto, is a poet, essayist, translator, and professor of classical literature.
According to critics, she is one of the most refined and erudite writers in contemporary literature, with a body of work in which different styles, references, and formats merge. For her, translation and creation are synonymous terms.
“If I knew what poetry was, I wouldn’t need to write,” she said in one of the few interviews she has given.
On Friday, the Nobel Peace Prize will be announced, and on Monday, the Economics Prize.
