Carney estimates that this package of announcements will generate direct investments of over 200 billion Canadian dollars, in the context of Canada's trade orientation towards Asia. The project has significant geopolitical dimensions, considering that Canada exports most of its oil to the United States. The Premier of Alberta, Danielle Smith, supports the initiative, aiming to double oil production by 2035. However, the project raises concerns about its environmental impact, given that oil extracted from tar sands is extremely polluting.
