The Chinese group BYD Co reported record annual sales of 116 billion dollars on Friday, surpassing Tesla, but its profit fell for the first time since 2021, down 19% compared to the previous year, reaching 4.7 billion dollars.

The company, the world's largest manufacturer of electric vehicles, is expanding into global markets, including Latin America and Europe, where profit margins are higher. Despite a 28% increase in sales compared to 2024, with 2.26 million electric vehicles sold, BYD is facing fierce competition in China, the world's largest auto market. The war in Iran has led to rising fuel prices, boosting interest in renewable energy. Additionally, the reduction of government subsidies for electric vehicles in China has put pressure on manufacturers.
