Bulgaria will hold early parliamentary elections on April 19, according to the announcement by President Iliana Iotova. She has appointed Andrei Ghiurov, Deputy Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank, to lead an interim government responsible for preparing the election. The elections will be the eighth electoral process in the last five years, marked by deep political divisions.

The previous government resigned on December 11, following street protests related to economic policies and the perception of failure in combating corruption. Iotova emphasized the importance of organizing elections at a press conference, in the context of prolonged political instability and the difficulties parties face in forming stable coalitions in a fragmented parliament.
