Bulgaria has officially announced that, starting from July 1, 2026, vaccination against chickenpox will become mandatory for children, as part of a revised immunization program.

According to the new framework, children will receive two doses of the vaccine: the first between 12 and 15 months, and the second at the age of four. Health authorities are awaiting the delivery of vaccine stocks to support the campaign.

Associate Professor Dr. Iordanka Uzunova emphasized the importance of vaccination, considering the high risks of infection and complications associated with chickenpox.

The vaccine, already available in Bulgaria, can be administered together with other vaccines, except for those that require a 30-day interval.
