Brussels closely monitors the political developments in Albania, emphasizing that the way the authorities in Tirana manage the crisis related to a real estate project associated with Jared Kushner could negatively influence the path to EU membership. The European Commission has indicated that certain government decisions could contravene European environmental legislation, especially in the context of street protests that have reached the seventh day, with demonstrators demanding the cancellation of the project that threatens a protected natural area.

The Albanian authorities have suspended the works and promise an environmental impact assessment, but Brussels insists on compliance with environmental standards. The protests, dubbed "Flamingo Revolution," have gained momentum, and the Albanian diaspora has joined the calls to protect the area. Albania aspires to EU integration by 2030, but compliance with environmental legislation remains an essential condition for progress in the accession negotiations.
