European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has warned that Brussels could impose taxes on the advertising revenues of US tech giants in retaliation if trade talks with the US fail. Since the imposition of tariffs by Donald Trump, the EU has been seeking a mutually beneficial deal, but is prepared to use measures such as the 'anti-coercion instrument' to deter US pressure. Von der Leyen confirmed the suspension of some tariffs to facilitate negotiations, but refused to negotiate on technology laws and VAT.
