Amanda Wixon, a 56-year-old British woman, was found guilty of multiple offenses, including assault and deprivation of liberty, after holding a woman captive for 25 years. The victim, who managed to seek help in 2021, was found in deplorable conditions, without medical care and unkempt. The judge described the case as having a "Dickensian air" and emphasized that a prison sentence is inevitable.
Wixon denied the charges, claiming that she did not prevent the victim from leaving. The court found that the victim was subjected to strict control, forced to ask for permission to eat and wash, and suffered severe physical and emotional abuse. After her release, the victim's condition improved significantly, but the traumas endured left deep scars. Wixon will be sentenced in March.
