In Brazil's Supreme Court, a retired general testified that he drafted a document about a plan to assassinate President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, part of a January 2023 coup attempt. Former president Jair Bolsonaro is accused of masterminding the plot, which involved senior military leaders. General Mario Fernandes said the document was just a "personal idea" and not a concrete plan. Bolsonaro faces up to 40 years in jail if found guilty.
