In a large-scale operation, the police in Brazil conducted raids in the Alemão and Penha communities, considered the bloodiest action against drug traffickers in the country's history. This operation, planned for over two months, involved more than 2,500 members of law enforcement, aiming to dismantle a major trafficking group.
President Lula da Silva emphasized the importance of these actions on platform X, stating that the continuation of organized crime affecting families and communities cannot be accepted. He called for a coordinated effort to combat drug trafficking, ensuring that the safety of police officers and innocent citizens is a priority.
At the same time, UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for an urgent investigation into the police raid in Rio de Janeiro.
