The spokesperson for President Alexander Lukashenko, Natalia Eismont, announced that preparations for the deployment are nearly complete. Lukashenko stated that these missiles represent a reaction to the "Western escalation." The hypersonic Oreshnik missiles, with a medium range, have been previously used by Russia in the conflict with Ukraine. Russian leader Vladimir Putin claimed that these weapons are impossible to intercept and have a destructive capacity similar to that of nuclear weapons, although Western experts contest these claims. The deployment of the missiles is part of the Russian-Belarusian military exercises from September.
