Austria refuses to allow overflight of its airspace in the context of the conflict in Iran

Colonel Michael Bauer, spokesperson for the Austrian Ministry of Defense, stated that all requests for overflights of Austrian territory in the context of the war in Iran have been denied. According to him, each overflight requires a request, and in the case of countries at war, requests are rejected in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Austria, which has adopted a policy of neutrality since 1955, is surrounded by NATO member countries. American President Donald Trump recently criticized certain European states, including France, Spain, and Italy, for not allowing overflights of their territories in the context of the conflict. Switzerland has also reaffirmed its right to neutrality, rejecting requests to use its airspace.
