An armed attack took place at the Holloman Air Force Base of the U.S. Air Force in New Mexico, resulting in the death of one person and the injury of another. The incident was confirmed on Wednesday by U.S. officials, who stated that the base was placed on lockdown Tuesday evening, around 5:30 PM local time, after reports of an 'active shooter' near a store on the base.
Security forces responded quickly, and the lockdown measures were lifted after authorities determined that there was no longer an immediate threat. The store near the incident site was temporarily closed.
So far, the identities of the victims and details about the suspect have not been made public, and the investigation is ongoing. Holloman Air Force Base, which covers an area of approximately 93 square miles, hosts the 49th Wing, involved in national security missions.
