The governor of the state of Mississippi, Tate Reeves, reported on a leak of anhydrous ammonia from the CF Industries plant, located north of Yazoo City.

Following the incident, emergency service officials responded quickly, and Reeves thanked the teams for their prompt reaction. CF Industries confirmed that there were no injuries and that all employees and contractors were safely evacuated.

The plant has the capacity to store approximately 48,000 tons of ammonia, but the exact amount present at the time of the incident was not specified. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has initiated air monitoring operations to ensure public safety. Anhydrous ammonia is used as a fertilizer and can cause burns upon contact with skin. Yazoo City is a small community located about 80 kilometers north of Jackson.
