Iliana Iotova, the acting president of Bulgaria, has appointed Andrei Giurov, the deputy governor of the National Bank, as interim prime minister. This decision paves the way for the formation of a provisional government that will organize early parliamentary elections, following the resignation of the previous government on December 11, triggered by protests against economic policies and corruption.
The date of the elections has not been set, but Iotova suggested that they could take place in April. Additionally, President Rumen Radev has resigned, leaving Vice President Iotova with the role of head of state. Bulgaria is facing political instability, with parties unable to form stable coalitions in a fragmented parliament.
