The Turkish Minister of Justice, Akin Gurlek, announced that nearly 1,000 people have been ordered to be arrested as part of a campaign against the network of Fethullah Gülen, considered responsible for the attempted coup on July 15, 2016.

This led to the death of over 250 people and the injury of 2,000. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Gülen, who died in 2024, of orchestrating the coup. Following this incident, Turkey declared a state of emergency and carried out massive purges in various sectors, including the military and judiciary. Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci described the latest arrests as part of a 'major purification campaign' against the FETO terrorist organization.

This action underscores the determination of Turkish authorities to eradicate the influence of Gülen's network, considered a threat to the state. The 2016 coup was a crucial moment in consolidating Erdogan's power in Turkey.
