Alex Saab, a key figure in the regime led by Nicolas Maduro, has been expelled from the United States

Alex Naim Saab Moran, an important intermediary of Nicolas Maduro's regime, has been expelled from the United States, according to a statement from Venezuelan authorities.

The expulsion took place on May 16, 2026, five months after the capture of Maduro by the American army. Saab, of Colombian nationality, was involved in numerous crimes, including the diversion of food aid and money laundering. Although the extradition of a Venezuelan is prohibited by the Constitution, authorities considered that Saab is Colombian and proceeded with the expulsion.

He had been arrested in 2020 in the Republic of Cape Verde and extradited in 2021 to the USA. After his release in 2023, Saab was appointed minister but was later removed from the government by Delcy Rodríguez, who took over leadership after Maduro's capture. Under pressure from Washington, Rodríguez implemented significant reforms in the government.
