An airplane with 11 passengers has disappeared in Indonesia. Authorities have begun searches with ground and aerial teams.

On Saturday, a small aircraft carrying 11 passengers disappeared in Indonesia, triggering the launch of a large search operation. The aircraft, belonging to Indonesia Air Transport, was flying from Yogyakarta to Makassar when contact was lost around 1:00 PM local time.

Authorities have mobilized ground and air teams, including helicopters and drones, to search for the plane in the mountainous area of the Maros region, located about 42 kilometers from Makassar. The head of the local search and rescue agency, Muhammad Arif Anwar, confirmed the involvement of air forces, police, and volunteers in the mission. Indonesia, a vast archipelago, relies on air transport but has a history of aviation accidents, raising concerns about air safety in the country.
