The Afghan Taliban have launched "massive attacks" against Pakistani forces along the border, in retaliation for Pakistani airstrikes in the Nangarhar and Paktia provinces. The spokesperson for the Afghan army, Wahidullah Mohammadi, announced that Afghan forces have killed or captured several enemy soldiers and seized 15 Pakistani outposts.

Recent exchanges of gunfire at the border have occurred, with each country accusing the other of provocations. The incident was preceded by Pakistani airstrikes that resulted in civilian casualties in Afghanistan. Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have deteriorated since the Taliban took power in 2021, with each country accusing the other of harboring militants who attack the territory of the other.
