The German far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) has recorded a significant increase in polls, surpassing Chancellor Friedrich Merz's conservative bloc by five percentage points, according to a Forsa poll published on Tuesday.

AfD reached 27%, matching its historic record, amid dissatisfaction with the coalition government and concerns about inflation, exacerbated by the war in Iran. Additionally, satisfaction with Merz's performance has hit a historic low, with only 15% of respondents expressing their satisfaction with his work. The conservative bloc, made up of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU), decreased by two percentage points, reaching 22%. The Social Democratic Party (SPD) remained steady at 12%, while the Greens obtained 15%.

The poll was conducted on a sample of 2,503 voters between April 21 and 27.
