The tanker Hyperion, flying the Gambian flag and sanctioned by the U.S., has entered Venezuelan waters, according to ship monitoring data. This occurs in the context of U.S. President Donald Trump's declaration of a "total blockade" on ships carrying Venezuelan oil. Hyperion was observed on Friday near the refineries in the Amuay bay after crossing the Caribbean.

The sanctions imposed by the U.S. on January 10, 2025, aim to reduce Russia's energy revenues. Venezuela condemned the blockade, considering it a serious threat to its sovereignty. Additionally, the U.S. has imposed further sanctions against some members of President Maduro's family, accusing him of ties to drug trafficking. Maduro has stated that the U.S. seeks to change his regime, an accusation rejected by U.S. authorities.
