In May 2026, a piece of the famous staircase of the Eiffel Tower will be auctioned by the Artcurial house in Paris, sparking increased interest among collectors. This is a fragment of the spiral staircase, used by the first visitors of the monument since 1889, with a height of approximately 2.75 meters and a diameter of 1.75 meters. This section was part of the route connecting the second floor to the third floor of the tower.
At the opening of the tower, during the Universal Exhibition, access to the top was only via stairs. In 1983, a large part of the original stairs was replaced with elevators, and about 20 sections were sold at auction or ended up in private collections. Today, fragments of the original stairs are displayed in various locations around the world, including in museums in France and in gardens in Japan. Interest in such items has grown, with a similar section being sold in 2016 for 523,800 euros, exceeding initial estimates. The Eiffel Tower continues to attract approximately seven million visitors annually, remaining an iconic symbol of France.
