France: 90% of fires are caused by human activities

In France, nine out of ten fires are caused by human activities, while lightning accounts for the remaining 10% of cases, according to initial elements of the investigations.

The French Ministry of the Interior reported that, since the beginning of summer, 474 people have been detained in connection with fires caused intentionally or accidentally. Among them, 183 are minors, including a 15-year-old teenager who has been charged in the case of the July fire that resulted in the deaths of two firefighters in Mérignac, in Gironde.

These statistics highlight the seriousness of the situation and the need to address the causes of fires to prevent future tragedies.
