A group of 110 Turkish miners was arrested on Tuesday morning in Ankara during a hunger strike organized to demand the payment of overdue salaries.

They arrived in the capital on Monday after a march of nearly 200 km from the province of Eskisehir and began their protest shirtless in front of the Ministry of Energy. The independent miners' union, Bagimsiz Maden-Is, announced the arrest of their colleagues, emphasizing that they had failed to discuss with ministry officials. The miners wrote messages on their bodies such as "We are hungry" and criticized the authorities' indifference towards workers.

The Ministry of Energy did not comment on the situation.
