Chapter I: Easter Celebrations


According to data collected between April 1 – 7 within the BAROMETER Informat.ro – INSCOP Research, a sociological research that has already reached its IX edition, 3 out of 4 Romanians state that they intend to attend the Resurrection Service this year.


BAROMETER Informat.ro – INSCOP Research is a monthly opinion poll conducted by INSCOP Research on behalf of the news platform Informat.ro in partnership with the think-tank Strategic Thinking Group.


BAROMETER Informat.ro – INSCOP Research aims to bring to the public's attention topics of interest to stimulate national conversations about various subjects and essential public policies for the present and future of Romania, based on the opinions of Romanians in partnership with think tanks and prestigious academic institutions. It is an initiative through which we aim to contribute to the strengthening of democracy by using scientific and credible tools that bring the voice of citizens to the forefront of public debate.


Methodology: Data were collected between April 1-7, 2026. Research method: interview via questionnaire. Data were collected using the CATI method (telephone interviews), with a simple stratified sample volume of 1100 people, representative of significant socio-demographic categories (gender, age, occupation) for the non-institutionalized population of Romania, aged 18 and over. The maximum allowable error of the data is ± 3%, with a confidence level of 95%.

The Significance of Easter

73.4% of those interviewed consider that Easter is primarily a religious celebration. 12.1% see it as a family celebration, 6.9% as a cultural tradition, 5.4% as a commercial celebration, while 0.9% relate to this celebration as a free period of the year. 0.4% mention something else, and 0.9% do not know or do not respond.

A larger proportion than the average believes that Easter is primarily a religious celebration, especially: PSD and AUR voters, people over 60 years old, those with primary education, and residents of small urban areas.

PNL voters, people aged 45 to 59, those with higher education, and public sector employees see Easter as a family celebration in a significantly larger proportion than the rest of the population.


Participation in the Resurrection Service Last Year

65.9% of survey participants declare that they attended the Resurrection Service on Easter night last year, while 34% say they did not participate. The proportion of non-responses is 0.1%.

They declare that they attended the Resurrection Service on Easter night last year, especially: AUR voters, people aged 18 to 44, those with primary education, and public sector employees.

They did not participate in the Resurrection Service in a larger proportion than the rest of the population: PNL voters, people over 45 years old, those with higher education.


Intention to Participate in This Year's Resurrection Service

75.6% of those surveyed state that they intend to attend the Resurrection Service this year. On the other hand, 21.7% say they do not intend to do so. 2.7% do not know or do not respond.

They intend to participate in this year's Resurrection Service in a higher percentage than the average: AUR voters, people aged 30 to 44, those with primary education, rural residents, state employees, and people with Facebook and Instagram accounts.

They do not intend to do so in a larger proportion than the rest of the population: USR voters, people over 60 years old, those with higher education, residents of small urban areas.


Plans for the Easter Mini-Vacation

76.2% of respondents declare that they will spend the Easter mini-vacation at home. 9.6% say they will go to relatives or friends, 2.5% that they will go on vacation in the country, and 1.8% on vacation abroad. 3.7% have not decided yet, 6% state that they will not do anything special, and 0.2% do not know or do not respond.

They specify in a significantly larger proportion than the rest of the population that they will spend the Easter mini-vacation at home: PSD voters, people over 60 years old, rural residents.

PNL and USR voters, people aged 30 to 44, those with higher education, residents of the capital, and state employees declare in a higher percentage than the average that they will go to relatives or friends for Easter.

They mention in a higher percentage than the average that they will spend this year's Easter mini-vacation on vacation in the country: USR voters and people aged 30 to 44.
