According to an WHO report, 1 in 6 bacterial infections is now resistant to antibiotics, a phenomenon known as antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This particularly affects low- and middle-income countries, where access to treatments is limited. Hospital infections caused by bacteria such as Klebsiella pneumoniae and E. coli have alarming resistance rates. WHO calls for a reduction in the use of strong antibiotics and improvement of prevention and diagnostic systems.
